I just got back from South Africa. It is such a rich and diverse country. The landscape ranges from mountains to cactus, pines, eucalyptus, banana fields, sugar cane, Savannah, and scenic coasts.
It has an exciting atmosphere with remembrances of Nelson Mandela, car shops in random locations, and people in large cities walking with packages on their heads. You never know what will be around the corner, whether it is a large administrative building or a shanty camp. The visit to Voortrekker Monument reminded me of the US settlers finding their way into the West of the US. It is a monument dedicated to the white pioneers that trekked though S. Africa. Of course the highlights of the trip were the visits to the game preserve and Kruger Park. We saw a multitude of animals. Below are some pictures of my favorite animals.
