Drive around Galway Bay to view the Cliffs of Moher, an impressive 700 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the sites you don't want to miss if you are in Ireland. We took a bus ride from Dublin to the Cliffs. The Cliffs take their name from a ruined promontory fort "Mothar" which was demolished during the Napoleonic wars to make room for a signal tower at Hag's Head. Plan to spend about 90 minutes at the site. There are two vistas to explore. One side has steps to a tower. There is an extra fee to climb it's spiral staircase, with views both ways. The visitor center has a movie, exhibits, gift shop, and small café. Our tour was cut short because the weather changed dramatically with huge gusts of wind and rain. We were lucky to have gotten in the panoramic views in the first hour of being there. On the drive home we went along the Burren, a limestone and fossil Lunar like rock coastline. It was beautiful. We stopped in Galway for about 2 hours. The cobblestone streets and village were quaint. It has a variety of restaurants from casual to luxury. We choose McDonagh"s for fish and chips. We also stopped in the small Claddagh store, then back to Dublin. We got into town around 7:30, just in time for the sunset.
