I visited Nassau last October. It was a great time to visit. It was not too crowded and the weather was great. As soon as we got off the cruise ship, we headed toward the business district. There were several vendors set up on the streets. It was a festive environment. We opted to go to the Straw Market and bought some cover ups and hats. Most of the vendors at the market have the same items, but the personalities of the people are quite different. You never know what kind of deal you might find.
Then it was off to Atlantis. This is a huge complex with varying price points on Paradise Island. They have three different buildings which cater to different clientele. Just walking through the complex is an experience in itself. The aquariums were awesome and the architecture is fabulous. When you first arrive, you will see a grand fountain with golden horses. It is truly a site to behold. The rooms are spacious and the views fantastic. Atlantis has a waterpark that is out of this world. The pyramid slide is something for the adventurous at heart to try, but it is fun to just watch people come down the front of it. Personally, I like the slides that use inner tubes. It just gives you a little softer landing. We checked out the lazy river and a few more slides before we went to their sand beach. Walking between the hotel and the water park, you will see waterfalls and sea turtles as well as other wildlife. They also have a swim with the dolphins option. After enjoying the water park, we went to the casino. I was very impressed with their collection of Chuhuly glass. The casino is huge and beautiful. Atlantis has two nightclubs, Cain at the Cove, which is poolside and Aura, which is a Las Vegas style nightclub with sunken dance floor.
I also visited a couple of other hotels. The Paradise Island Harbour Resort which is also on Paradise Island. It is a little more modest, but is also all-inclusive hotel. It has a very nice bay and a great area suited for a wedding. Breezes hotel is on the other side of the island. I found that you can take a local bus for just over a dollar. A taxi would be about $20.00 from the main business district. Breezes has a beautiful beach and pool area. I loved the open air dining room and the colorful atmosphere.
These are just a few of the things to do while in Nassau.
