I recently returned from a 4-day trip to Las Vegas. We packed a lot into 4 days. One of the reasons is because we booked an early flight, arrived at 11 a.m. and left at 4:35 p.m. on the last day. There is a lot to do with or without family.
We made the most of our first day. After we arrived and checked in, we went to Mandalay Bay for a quick tour of the complex. It is a fabulous hotel with large rooms, great pool area, and lots of restaurants at a great price. It is next to the Delano which is also similar in price and shares the pool area.

After that we went to Old Las Vegas. We saw a comedy show, had dinner at the D, visited the Mob Museum, Fremont Street, Container Park, and the Neon Sign Museum. My favorite was the Mob Museum. It gives a history of prohibition, and the start of the Mafia and how it affected Las Vegas. It is a must for history lovers. The museum is done very well with lots of video and interactive displays.
Day 2 we went to Zion National Park and Valley of Fire State Park. Zion is about 3 hours from Las Vegas and Valley of Fire is on the way. We went to the National Park first and then Valley of Fire. I recommend driving towards Zion the day before and staying at St. George or a small city close to the park. The reason is that when we got there at 11 am, there was no parking inside the park. We parked outside the park and took a shuttle into the park. You can't just drive through the park unless you are continuing onto Bryce National Park. Once you get to the park, there is a shuttle that takes you through the park. There are 9 stops. We stopped at two of them and hiked around.
Day 3 we went to Hoover Dam. We got there at 9 am, when it opens. There was no waiting. However we were there in September on a weekday. On the weekends it might be a lot more busy. Later that day some of the people in our group went to the Luxor to see the Titanic show. It was phenomenal. We had two local shows about the Titanic in Minneapolis and this one had much more to see. If you like the Titanic I highly recommend it. Some of us just walked around the casinos such as Venetian, Palazzo and Treasure Island and did a little gambling. Later we met for dinner and after dinner we went to the Mirage for the volcano show.
Day 4 we went to the Bellagio to see the fountain and to Caesars Palace to see the Forum show. Hell's Kitchen is right in front on Caesar's Palace, so we also made a stop there. Then it was off to the airport.
What you do in Vegas really depends upon what you like. They have a plethora of shows. You can order tickets ahead of time or purchase them same day for 50% off at booths along the strip. One is near the Cosmopolitan. I recommend One about Michael Jackson at Mandalay Bay. Another show is Love, a tribute to The Beatles. Check out https://www.lasvegas.com/ for other shows.
I recommend staying at Mandalay Bay or the Delano. They have great rooms and they're very fairly priced.
One of the things about Vegas that you need to keep in mind is the cost of parking. Things have changed from the old days when all the casinos had free parking. Now there are a few resorts with free parking which include Treasure Island, the Venetian, Palazzo, and SLS. Some of the casinos have reasonable parking. For example Cosmopolitan is in the middle of the strip and is only $10 a day
You can find lots more to do. These were just a few of the things that we chose.
